at the moment there don't appear to be trams running along La Trobe St to Docklands past the early hours of the evening on weekends. i think in order to improve the nightlife in this area, it needs to be more easily accessible to people venturing into the city for a night out.

I dont know the area too well, but with reference to Emily N's idea (http://www.placesforme.info/discussion/?idea=139) sould there be a shuttle bus service introduced up and down Mandurah Terrace and Fremantle Road that drops people off on the main street? The bus could be electric / alternative energy powered and advertised as such. Advertising could also be applied to the bus exterior for revenue. Refer here: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://pages.globetrotter.net/burridge/temp/RTC_Ecolobus.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.usj.com.my/bulletin/upload/showthread.php%3Fp%3D312490&usg=__Taes6xaJVVttqiMG_ou0f50BOyI=&h=533&w=800&sz=63&hl=en&start=84&um=1&tbnid=JRC1i-UIPV9JzM:&tbnh=95&tbnw=143&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dcommunity%2Bshuttle%2Bbus%26ndsp%3D18%26hl%3Den%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-au%26sa%3DN%26start%3D72%26um%3D1

| Its great that so many new ideas are being implemented into the Town Centre of Claremont. Now, lets focus on the neighbourhood centres, such as the one on Ashton Avenue. I believe that mixed use developments with the encouragement for cafes or a coffee shop would really lift the profile of this area. Lift the restrictions with the Town Planning Scheme and see how the markets react - allow reduction in car parking due to its proximity to Loch St Traino and allow a generic 'commerical' zoning. Although the land-use needs to be complimentary to surrounding areas, its important to allow some innovation and personality into all neighbourhood centres.

I would like to see a high street with coffee shops and restaurants so the surrounding communities of lakelands, singleton, madora bay, silver sands and meadow springs can have somewhere to meet without relying on cars for transport... Something similar to Ardross Street in Applecross or Beaufort Street Mt Lawley with alfresco dining, green grocers and the like.

i would love a backpackers to be developed in Mandurah, there is not much affordable accommodation for travellers to stay in, i know that many backpackers miss out on Mandurah, and go to Rockingham, which is a shame, because Mandurah is so unique, and we are missing out on the diversity that it would bring to the area.

I would like to see an ice rink built in Mandurah. there are only 2 ice rinks in WA, one in Cockburn and one in Mirabooka. I think it would bring something different to the area, and would also be a positive physical and social activity that young people would engage in. I know of a few state ice hockey players and figure skaters who live in the rockingham/mandurah area, who would appreciate something closer.

Great idea from Michael W: We could also consider the use of Mandurah Terrace as a car-free street on Sundays, giving all the businesses along the strip and a barrier free interface to the foreshore. This concept is used in Bogota, Colombia, and is also becoming popular in New York City and Melbourne.

| The beautiful Art Deco Lawson building at the bottom of the Lane. In a former incarnation I worked high up the Bankwest Tower and there is clearly a prime spot for a roof bar up there. Whether planning permission would ever be possible or the chance that the residents are closet party animals is probably slim. But would be great!

| The car park at the end of Oxford St is prime real estate. By continuing the row of cafes and shops, low rise office space could pay for for development and compensate the car park owners. There'd be an impact on parking but there's a lot of parking still and the train station.

| How about making use of the QANTAS building. this could provide a brilliant substructure for contoured landforms to create an amphitheatre in Central Park. Perfect for concert events, and with a large screen projection unit you could create an exciting place for people watching. The question is how important are the trees to the space, they either hinder development or provide structural design challenges due to the under-ground carpark!

Huevos De Manana 2 moro's eggs... This concept will house art or design based works that are installed by established or up and coming artists/designers. This unique viewing window will offer the passer by some thing out of the norm and surely attract their interest. It will also be a platform for promotion of local artists and designers. A high rotation of installations will ensure on going interest.

| Creating development bonuses for developments along Stirling Highway that provide student housing/ disadvantaged housing would allow for diversification of the population as well as make use of existing public transport routes. There are Universities at either end of the highway (Notre Dame and UWA). Students also provide a great source of employees - they're usually the people serving you your coffees.

| The Traffic Management Plan lists Graylands Road as the only north-south bike link between Swanbourne and Brockway Road - and yet I challenge any town planner to ride a bike down it during peak hour. It's barely wide enough for two cars, and certainly not wide enough for a bike plus the vast numbers of oversized heavy vehicles that use it as a through road all day rather than Davies Road, as the Plan indicates that they should. It's just one example of creating policies that are pointless when they are not observed in the real world, please keep this in mind when creating these many new plans and policies that sound great on paper but won't work in practice. Practical suggestions: relocate the bike route or otherwise resume some of the Showgrounds verge for widening/bike lanes, enforce use of Davies Road either by policing or Graylands road modification to make heavy vehicle access impossible, signage on Lapsey Rd redirecting heavy vehicles, all Showgrounds access for trucks should be via Ashton Ave or the underpass gate.

| Unlike the rest of Claremont south of the railway, the north-east precinct has not been upgraded for over 50 years. Roads, kerbs, overhead power lines are an ageing contrast to the extensively upgraded riverside precincts, yet we pay the same rates north of the line. Only a few streets are invloved, most of the area is occupied by the Showgrounds, oval and Lake, so it wouldn't take much to bring the area up to the standard that surrounds it.

Toby W's idea... |

| Keep as many car bays on the north side of Claremont Station as possible for Park & Ride - perhaps underground under the new development in the NE precinct. Substantially reducing the number of bays and relocating them nearer to Showgrounds Station, where trains do no stop, will encourage those who currently park there to keep driving into the city to park, being more convenient than say walking 2km from Mt Claremont/ N. Swanbourne or waiting 20 mins for a bus (if at all available in your area) to the station. Claremont Station holds an important status as an "all trains" stop, it is busier than any other between Perth and Fremantle, and Government policies to have less cars generally on the road need to be assessed with more realistic and effective strategies than "replace 80% of Park & Ride spaces with massive rate-paying flats". Please remember your existing ratepayers rather than calculating the financial benefit of twice as many new ones.

something that connects with its amazing location...the river, and instigates staying awhile. It must allow approach via water transport and invite all different groups of people. 'Hidden Lane'...currently a carpark, home to a family of pigeons and clad with old aircon units; it has a great sense of scale by the surrounds of vacant walls...Use these as projection screens for evening films. Could Mountain Designs construct a rock climbing wall to showcase their mountaineering equiptment? Simply an event space.

| Provide bicycle facilities in the new Claremont quarter development. 700 new car parking bays have been provided. All of which encourage car use, leading to increased congestion & pollution in Claremont and contribute to rising levels of inactivity and obesity. How many bike parking bays, or bike racks have been installed?

| Provide contra-flow bike traffic light crossing, from Barnfield Rd to Gugeri St, across Stirling Rd in an easterly direction. This would provide easy access to the centre of Claremont for cyclists coming from the direction of Cottesloe, on a relatively quiet road.

The water feature / pond does not work and it must cost a fortune to maintain. Instead, it could be turned into a cafe courtyard with a couple of cafe kiosks and garden with umbrellas etc for comfortable outside dining/studying. The place is sheltered from wind and still gets winter sun. Loose furniture/ tables and chairs that can be moved and stacked at the end of the day. The kiosk can close up and move to one side so the space can return to an amphitheatre as required.

| This is a general comment in regard to Heritage Buildings. So often you see them ruined by a wacky bright colour (Orange and Purple Beaurepairs on Stirling HW), or cheap shopfronts at street level. Perhaps Claremont council could provide funds for Heritage Architects advice regarding colours and shopfronts. Alternatively, make it a part of tenancy agreements that the tenant doesn't compromise old buildings in this way.

| It continues to amazing me why Perth won't embrace it's beautiful foreshore. Claremont has a great opportunity to provide a lovely riverside cafe (for example) which would be fantastic. Obvioulsy neighbouring residences may require some passification (if that's a word), but the cafe could be very small (coffee and cake only) and open during daylight hours. I like Michael S's idea about the indoor market too. Lastly though, I'm very very excited at the prospect of the farmers market in the Showgrounds.

| I think the key is consolidating parking areas, it currently feels like parking area are spread over the entire site (makes people drive around looking for a free bay clogging the roads). In addition I haven't seen any obvious bike parking (undercover and secure) in the area.

More trees Avion Way has a great feel about it. And its the trees that make it. Imagine St Quentin Avenue as a tree lined street. A few on street parking bays may have to go but it would well and truly be worth the effort for the level of comfort, shade and texture that would be achieved by adding large shade trees.

| My Idea is to sink the whole shebang and then have big underground glass walls to watch the traffic go past while you access the sewerage and swamp monsters living under Perth. On top you could build a huge toxic dump to put all the bogans who come to Northbridge. And anyone who watches crap TV, reads The Worst Australian and believes it, or thinks Triple J is alternative.

The scale of this alley reminds me of Brick Lane in London - there could easily be picnic benches around, bars, food stalls, galleries, clothes shops...all spilling out on to the lane. We just need to restrict service vehicles and cars to certain times.
